Finding a job in today’s economic environment is challenging. Some are specifically looking for careers in which they can receive their training online, enabling them to partake in part-time jobs while moving forward with their financial health. If this sounds good to you, you might consider becoming a CNA.
CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. There is demand for CNAs all over the country, As a CNA, you will be able to work in any city, from small town to large city. If you move, you can bring your certificate with you – the only possible requirement will be that you update it if you go out of state.
Choosing to become a CNA has other advantages as well. This is a career, not merely a nine-to-five job. Many employers of CNAs offer medical and dental benefits and are very generous with their continuing education reimbursements.
While being a CNA can be lucrative in itself, it can also lead to a variety of even more fulfilling careers. Some of the possible jobs you will be prequalified for include Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN).
To begin on your new career, you will have no trouble finding classes to become a CNA. You will be able to complete your training in a relatively short period of time, and you will find that the cost is less than you might think. The best part is that your coursework can be done online.
This program takes about 75 hours to complete. You will spend about one-third of this time in hands-on practical application – the rest is done in the classroom (or online). Your instructor will provide you with a State Board of Nursing form to fill out after you have completed your training.
Becoming a CNA involves five steps. You will first undergo a personality assessment. If you are interested in helping people and are willing to sometimes perform repetitive tasks to do so, you are on the right track. Your interest in becoming an involved staff member who can take over when necessary will be taken into account. Very often support staff is the first, and most important, part of a patient’s visit to a healthcare facility. It is up to this support staff to be friendly, accurate and helpful.
Your training includes some volunteer time in a hospital. You may have the chance to choose which department, or field, you are active in. The appropriateness of this job for you will become obvious during this phase of your training.
The fourth step is completing the CNA Training Program. Some of the topics included here will be understanding patient care standards, legal issues, and both your and the patients’ rights and responsibilities. Performing daily care procedures and proper use of medical equipment will also be taught.
Finally, you will take your state Exam for CNA certification, and the sky will be the limit!
