Becoming a CNA is one of the job opportunities that fulfills these requirements.
The acronym CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. There is not one spot in the US where a CNA cannot find a job! As a CNA you will be able to find work whether you live in a big city or a small town. The only thing you may have to do after becoming a CNA is update your certification for any new state you move to.
There are a host of advantages to those who choose to become a CNA. This job will prepare you for advancement in the medical field, if you so desire. While being a CNA can be lucrative in itself, it can also lead to a variety of even more fulfilling careers. There are many jobs that are in high demand that you will qualify for with continued training, including becoming an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or an RN (Registered Nurse).
There are numerous classes available for those who want to be a CNA. Some of these are fee based, but what is special about this field is that achieving CNA certification can actually be achieved in a relatively short period of time. It can also be done online, at home, in your spare time.
The training class takes about 75 hours to complete. Roughly two-thirds of these are study done in a classroom or online, and the rest are practical experience. When all the training is complete, you fill out a State Board of Nursing form that will be provided by the instructor.
Becoming a CNA involves five steps. A personality assessment is the first of these. You must obviously be interested in helping people, and have the patience to partake in some recurring tasks on a daily basis. Your interest in becoming an involved staff member who can take over when necessary will be taken into account. The reason for this is that, as you may well know, support staff forms the core of healthcare facilities. It is necessary that you be friendly and helpful, as well as supportive and attentive to detail.
Your training will also include volunteering at a local hospital. Your volunteer duties will provide you with the full range of what you can expect as an employee at a healthcare facility. Your performance here will be recorded, and doing well is a good indication that you are in the right profession.
Completing the coursework of the CNA Training Program is the fourth step. Some of the topics included here will be understanding patient care standards, legal issues, and both your and the patients’ rights and responsibilities. Learning how to use basic medical equipment and perform daily care procedures is taught at this time.
The final step is taking the Exam for CNA certification, and then you will be on your way to a satisfying and lucrative career.
